Final 2023 Mock Draft
(June 21st 2023)
(June 21st 2023)
Thursday is the day the Spurs franchise makes a complete turn from where they were last year
Wembanyama is an instant game changer and the dream is now a reality for San Antonio
Go listen to his podcast appearance on JJ Redick's show (after you listen to me of course) and you will only like the guy even more
Miller and Scoot are apparently neck and neck with each other for who the Hornets pick here at 2
I still think this will be Miller but do not be surprised if Scoot Henderson goes here
There is also the rare chance this gets traded and if it is, look for New Orleans to be the team
Whoever will be picking here at 3 is going to get Scoot and will have their franchise point guard
Rumored to be traded, look out for Washington, Utah and Toronto to be the three teams trying to move up here and get the stud guard
Will instantly change the franchise he goes to, and I think he could be an immediate help for Portland even with Dame
I think Houston ultimately lands on Amen Thompson as the pick here even though I think Whitmore is the better prospect
Not knowing if Harden will sign or not, you have to look for the future of the team and franchise by drafting the point guard
I've talked ad nauseam about how much of a perfect fit this will end up being for the Pistons with having that off the ball scorer alongside Cade Cunningham
Some people started to pick Jarace Walker here, but with the abundance of bigs on the roster, I don't see why they would continue to jam it upÂ
I seriously have no clue who Orlando is picking here at 6 with this pick being traded as a possibility
They did a fantastic job of hiding the Paolo pick up until draft night so I don't expect them to show their hand at all here
Having Ausar and Franz defensively could be incredible, plus he gives a great playmaking upside and isn't afraid to attack the basket
A report came out about the Pacers wanting to trade this pick for a stud wing player to fill a gap, and signs point towards OG Anunoby, but with the Raptors unwilling to trade him, I don't see them pulling off a trade
Utah will be aggressive to jump ahead of Washington but ultimately I think Indy sticks and picks here
Hendricks is a great all around prospect with being one of those guys who just do everything really good at a high level
With now trading Bradley Beal, it is very apparent that Anthony Black is going to be the pick here for Washington
They got back Chris Paul who is most likely going to be re-routed to a new team in exchange for more draft capital
Anthony Black brings fantastic defense, improvement on playmaking and great size for a point guard
They are going to be very active trying to move up higher in order to block Washington from getting Anthony Black, as Utah is very high on him
Getting Walker as a consolation prize isn't something to look down upon
Great defensive impact and will continue to improve on stretching the floor allows Utah to run a bigger lineup that is rare now in the NBA
I still think this pick is pretty much locked in to getting moved (look for Atlanta, Washington and Toronto)
Getting a big man here would be a need they've been looking for ever since Porzingis didn't work out for them
Using his size and defensive ability to create opportunities offensively would open up a whole new game if they stick here at 10 and pick
Before I picked Lively to go here, but the more that I convinced myself Ausar is the pick at 6, the more I convince myself that they need to go get a shooter here at 11
Gradey Dick gives you nothing but shooting and will fit perfectly alongside other playmaking guards/fowards on this team
Also wouldn't be surprised if this pick is traded or at least shopped to move down a few spots
I see a ton of people really starting to die down on the hype of Coulibaly, and I get it, it's hard to project these guys from overseas
I think if we know anything about OKC, they're not afraid of taking risks on these European players who have a high upside
Keeps getting deeper in that wing section of their roster which is one of the most valuable spots in the NBA
So I know I've said before Cason Wallace is the guy to pick here at 13, but the more I read into stuff and reports on the draft, the more I think Toronto steers another direction
There are also rumors that Toronto want to trade up into the top 3, and they definitely have the assets to do so
Bufkin gives you great, consistent play on both sides of the ball with a high motor and size for his position
The Pelicans are still trying to move up into the top 3, with the 2nd overall pick and Charlotte looking to be the most realistic trade partner out of the three
Whether they do so or not, I'm sticking with my pick here at 14 in Jordan Hawkins
The Pelicans are reportedly really high on him and met with him again this week to most likely solidify the direction they want to go
There are rumors going around that Atlanta is interested in putting together a trade package for Pascal Siakam
If they do so, 15 is 100% going back in return, so this is a pick that would work both ways
Wallace brings great defense and perimeter shooting that could replace Dejounte Murray if he leaves or is traded, and would actually compliment Trae Young well
If the pick is traded with either Toronto or Dallas, this is a guy that both teams really like and would be interested in having
Another team and pick that I am sticking to will be Utah here at 16 taking JHS
Getting Walker at 9, opens up the availability to draft guard here at 16, which is widely known that they will target one
A situation where Jalen has a chance to develop and polish things that came into question in between his senior year of high school and the draft process
There was a clear lack of shooting for this Lakers team last year, and even after making trades at the deadline, they still struggled to find it
The Lakers are really high on Jett Howard, and so am I to an extent, so it makes sense for both sides to fit here on this pick
Can play the 2 and 3, will be a threat off the ball for when defenses collapse on Lebron or AD
There are some hills I'm willing to die on when it comes to draft night, and Nick Smith to the Heat is the one for sure I will
It's a perfect match for them, unless they decide to trade this pick or go after a guard in free agency
Either way, you need a young guy for the future and Nick Smith brings you nothing but upside in this pick
Jaime has the biggest jump going into draft night and it is because of his recent workouts and interviews that have a ton of teams falling in love with him
With the chance to lose Draymond Green in free agency, the Warriors are going to need a new swiss army knife on their team
Jaime might not be the most athletic guy, despite having an insane vertical, but he will do everything on the court for you
Warriors don't want to develop more young guys, so get one of the older players in the class that will be ready to play on night one
Houston are still fielding offers for this pick here at 20, but if they keep it, Leonard Miller is the guy you target here
Fantastic defender with size, can rebound and finishes with strength around the rim
Will help this team and Ime Udoka's defensive identity immediately, and if they trade the pick, someone would trade up and make sure he doesn't fall more
Once again, one of these two picks will get traded no doubt and I think it could end up being the first of the two (even though it won't matter)
George will drop (which I don't know why) and it seems like he will, so I'm taking a shot here on this pick that a team is going to trade into this spot and pick up George (look for Charlotte, Utah, Orlando)
Jonathan Givony has the Nets selecting Clowney here too and I definitely agree with this pick the more I look at it
Good backup for Nic Claxton and could potentially be a solid trade piece
Could eventually play alongside Claxton, with Clowney having stretch potential trying to improve his 3pt shooting
Time to find a compliment at the forward spot for Scoot/Dame or whoever is at the head spot on the team
Rupert is interesting as he was once as high as the lottery, and most recently by most, a second rounder. But with a green room invite, signs point that he could go in the late first round
Great defensive player and super athletic, just some questions on his offensive ability to help a team right now, but can develop into something and contribute
Another hill I will be dying on is Kris Murray to the Kings
It just makes too much sense with his twin brother Keegan being on the team already and their need for wings
If they pass on him, Sacramento is officially a cold hearted franchise
Is this me as a fan really wanting him to fall farther into our lap? Yes.
With Tyus Jones pretty much set to be traded, you look towards the draft to find a guy who can play as your backup 1
With his elite shooting and underrated playmaking ability, Podz would be perfect here to play immediately under Ja
Now he might go much higher and not end up here, but I'm a guy who is all about hope, and I hope he falls this far
This would be the other guy I would take for Memphis at 25 if they stick there
Sensabaugh might be the best scorer right away in the draft, who could make an immediate impact on that end
His defense is questionable and with being not as athletic, he will have to work hard on being able to stay consistent on that end
No denying his talent and skill as a scorer
Chance that O-Max could go higher come Draft Night, but for now, I have him falling a bit behind other big men/bigger wings
Fantastic defensive player with great athleticism that will have to find his true offensive game in the NBA
I like him to go higher (wouldn't be mad if the Grizzlies picked him) and he easily could, he has the talent to help a team right now just based on the tools he has shown
Lewis is a great offensive player that could impact a NBA team immediately
His defense could come into question and needs time to develop, where drafting this late, teams are wanting for sure players
Someone could trade into the first to get Lewis because of his shooting, but if Utah sticks here, they could work with him to develop on the defensive end while maintaining his shooting skill
Denver has found a way to trade into the first round and stock up on low contract players to surround their core
Andre Jackson was a very important part of the UConn National Championship run back in March
Incredible defensive player that can impact the game in multiple ways offensively
Would fit the similarities to the Christian Braun pick last year in getting a National Champion who can play when his number is called on at any given moment
I can't make this up when I say that minutes before typing this, I typed in the Clippers pick here, and then they traded the pick to Washington as a part of the Porzingis-Brogdon-Morris trade
Now trading Porzingis, you have to help the frontcourt out a bit and James Nnaji is a guy who has gained a ton of traction the past week or two
Guy with a ton of size and strength, but is super athletic as well. Will rebound will and be lob threat around the rim
