1) Atlanta Hawks
Now this might be one of the more unpredictable drafts in such a long time, even surrounding the first overall pick, because of the fact this could be a different team picking here
Tons of rumors talking about the Hawks trading down to maybe go for Clingan, but if they stick, I think they just end up going Risacher. Either way, I think he goes 1st overall no matter who picks on draft night.
Safe pick, good wing with a ton of upside on both ends of the floor, great complimentary piece for the young stars
2) Washington Wizards
The Wizards get a slam dunk pick for their team's needs and direction going forward with Sarr here
Once being a dream pick at number 1, now slides to 2, and gives this team a ton of flexibility to do whatever they want surrounding him
Excellent defender, developing offensively but will have the tools to be a modern day big man that anchors the middle for years to come
3) Houston Rockets (via BRK)
Clingan here at 3 for Houston is gaining a ton of steam as of late, and for Clingan to go in the top 3 overall is a trendy pick
Despite having a ton of bigs on the roster already, Clingan's defensive versatility shadows the offensive game of Sengun who will be the starter
I think Clingan goes 3 no matter what and a team could trade up into the top 3 to grab him, as it has been reported a ton recently
4) San Antonio Spurs
Reportedly, Castle has canceled all of his workouts with teams that currently have a "franchise" point guard in the lottery, basically saying I want to be a Spur
If he does, it would be an awesome fit for this team. Awesome defender, runs out in transition well and can finish around the rim
Still transitioning into a point guard and showed sings of doing so at UConn, but he can develop into a solid secondary ball-handler
I think there is a chance this pick is traded, and the Spurs might move up to 1 to get Risacher, allowing the Hawks to take Clingan at 4
5) Detroit Pistons
When doing Mock Drafts, it is all about taking a combination of team needs, team philosophy, and recent traction to decide who to take
As of late, there is a ton of smoke about Buzelis going top 5, more specifically here to Detroit at 5
A high risk, high reward player in Buzelis who can stretch the floor and knock down shots from the perimeter, as well as serve as a secondary shot blocker. Will need to improve in overall efficiency and body frame.
6) Charlotte Hornets
I repeat a pick I made in the last mock with Sheppard going to Charlotte and I feel like it's a great pick overall for both sides
Charlotte gets more defense in the backcourt as well with the added perimeter shooting around LaMelo Ball which is a key
A ton of teams are really calling up to try and trade into this pick hoping Clingan falls here, so keep an eye out as well
Charlotte could go with forward here as well like Williams or Holland
7) Portland Trail Blazers
Portland goes for a swing pick here with Williams at 7, who was a former top prospect going into this past season
Williams is a standout defender with his size and length, as well as a fantastic finisher around the rim at a high efficiency rate. Will need to look to develop a shot consistently to expand his game.
Grabbing wings to be complimentary pieces going forward to surround Scoot Henderson is priority #1 for the Blazers, and they have multiple picks in the lottery to do so
8) San Antonio Spurs (via TOR)
The Spurs grab one of the more trendy picks here in the lottery in Salaun who can be paired alongside his fellow Frenchman in Victor Wembanyama
Good defender with projections of him being able to be an above average three point shooter for his position in the future. Will need to put it all together and translate it.
If the Spurs do trade up to 1, this pick wouldn't be the case because of their pick in Risacher, but either way this would be a good haul to get from the draft to re-haul that young core
9) Memphis Grizzlies
Things change within weeks in the world of the NBA, and it seems as if things are spinning for the Grizzlies currently
Reported they were interested in moving up to take Clingan, to now finding out he could go top three, to now a chance the Grizzlies trade back... it is all a revolving door of rumors
I go with Knecht here to stay close to his alma mater in UT, giving this team an offensive spark off the bench at all three levels if they decide to move on from Kennard
I could also see a world where the Grizz go with Devin Carter here, or potentially trade back for Kel'el Ware
10) Utah Jazz
Unfortunately, Topic suffered a torn ACL this past season and will be out for an extended amount of time, but it seems as if teams' medical staff aren't too concerned with the recovery from this injury
Inevitably, this would drop Topic' stock down, but luckily for Utah, they get to be the team that scoops him up
He is still one of the most talented players in this class bringing elite level playmaking and an interesting scoring dynamic for his position
There have been rumors of Utah wanting to move out of the 10th pick so keep an eye out for that leading up
11) Chicago Bulls
The Bulls are needing to continue to stack up the wing position around the plethora of guards they have on the roster currently
Holland is a great defending wing that finishes at a high rate around the rim. Needs to be a better shooter and that will only come with time I feel
Allows them to pair Patrick Williams with Holland defensively, especially if Caruso is moved away
There is a chance Chicago also moves up as they have been connected to Donovan Clingan
12) Oklahoma City Thunder (via HOU)
Devin Carter reportedly received a lottery promise, and looking at the teams, Oklahoma City could be the team that gets him to help anchor the defense coming off the bench at the guard position
Plays similar to Marcus Smart with his size and skill-set; good shooter, decent playmaker, awesome defender and plays bigger than his height
OKC could try and package this with future capital to get an experienced player due to the "weaker" draft class
13) Sacramento Kings
Well, this might come as a shock to people, including myself, but it makes some sense when you look at the "bigger" picture
Edey recently worked out with the Kings and they are impressed by his changes from last year to this year, which would open up the way for Edey to run as the backup center for this team
He will do the obvious in blocking shots, grabbing boards, and finishing around the rim at a high rate. But his willingness to shoot from the outside in his pre-draft process might open up new opportunities (such as this) come draft night
14) Portland Trail Blazers (via GSW)
Picking up McCain here at 14 to add shooters around Scoot Henderson is going to be the key going forward to maximize this team's success
Potentially the best shooter in this class, with a good feel for the game, and will always play hard despite his size disadvantage
The Blazers were interested in Clingan and would really like him to fall to 8, so they grab a center at 14 anyways to make up for that miss
There is a chance that a contending team with no pick or a very low one -- trade up -- in order to prevent these other playoff teams from grabbing McCain (Bucks, Warriors)
15) Miami Heat
This is an insane pick to have to even talk about because Dillingham should not be picked anywhere near 15 in this draft, but here we are
Scouts aren't as impressed with his measurements and testing which is causing him to possibly drop as low as 18 or 19. But Miami will not let a player this talented just fly away so fast, I don't think
Natural scorer, will be an instant spark plug coming off the bench for the Heat and creates flexibility to do what they want with all the guards they currently have. Dream scenario for the Heat
16) Philadelphia 76ers
I hate that Walter has fallen so far in the draft, but it seems to be the case with most of the college "one and done" players
Walter could be a cornerstone piece for Philly with his natural scoring ability, improved playmaking and flashes on defense that could get him early minutes, easily
The 76ers need players on their roster since they have barely anyone under contract next year, so this would be a start, but another dream scenario for a contending team to get a player of Walter's stature
17) Los Angeles Lakers
With the fall of other players in this draft so far, this has allowed another extremely talented player to fall as well into the lap of the Lakers, because of course
Collier will be the second guard the Lakers take in the past two years but could be the one that changes the tide for this team based on his playmaking ability
Will need to improve defensively, but that won't matter early on, as the Lakers would be looking for instant offense from him coming off the bench
This could be traded as well, as there are rumors the Lakers could trade up, but if a scenario like this arised, I don't see why they would move up any
18) Orlando Magic
Filipowski has dropped considerably since the end of the college season, primarily based on the rise of the other centers in this class being more prominent in workouts and concerns about his positional size
I think for an Orlando team that emphasizes length with defense, Filipowski can fit into that role, as well as solve an issue for them in perimeter shooting by being one of the better shooting bigs in this draft
This could be a long-term projection for the Magic to pair Filipowksi alongside Banchero to create a Duke frontcourt if other Blue Devil, Wendell Carter, is dealt away
19) Toronto Raptors (via IND)
Toronto unfortunately doesn't have a top end pick, despite being one of the bottom 10 teams in the league this year, due to the Jakob Poeltl trade
They end up going with another big, despite having a couple on the roster already, but I see them moving off one of them this offseason anyways.Â
Ware is a great shot blocker, rebounder and has a great ability to stretch the floor, and projects to be a great two-way stretch big in this league
20) Cleveland Cavaliers
Now that the impending trail has been complete, and Shannon pleaded not guilty towards his charges, teams will pounce on the chance to get an experienced college scorer
There could be some hesitancy in drafting him with it all, plus the fact his draft age is 24, but Cleveland could look for a scoring burst off the bench with Shannon
Great scorer everywhere on the court with the ability to rebound very well for his position. Not going to be relied on for his on-ball defense at all.
Always a chance the Cavs move out of this pick with the need of "win-now" players
21) New Orleans Pelicans (via MIL)
The Pelicans are in an odd position drafting wise with the roster they currently have constructed but they are going to be in the market for a couple new big men
They opt to go with the replacement big man for Valanciunas that is more of a typical big in Missi
Rebounds, blocks shots and finishes around the rim all very well but still a raw talent with a ton of potential and a good frame
There are rumors that the Pelicans are willing to trade this pick for a haul of second-round picks so this could be shipped elsewhere, as we have seen them defer the 17th pick back to LA already
22) Phoenix Suns
Carrington is a guy that a ton of scouts rave about and could see as a potential star in this league
Looking offensively, he has all the tools to score with the best of them, but at a consistent rate is remained to be seen. Defense isn't terrible and for his positional size, I like what he brings.
Phoenix just need more depth at guard overall anyways, and more of a traditional point guard could help, so Carrington could fix that
23) Milwaukee Bucks (via NO)
I think there is a world that da Silva drops after being projected to be a lottery guy, but the way the rest of the draft turned out, he inevitably dropped far and Milwaukee can't pass up on him
Projects more as a 3/4 and could be a vital part as a perimeter threat shooting wise, with the ability to be a decent defender.
Could also could see Milwaukee as a team to trade up potentially and try and grab a different player, maybe more of a point guard
24) New York Knicks (via DAL)
Dunn is a premiere defender in this class and will bring an immediate impact on that end of the floor, as well as a ton of upside as a cutter or roller in screen plays
New York also loves to get these types of players especially with the coach in charge right now. This could also be a replacement if OG Anunoby leaves in free agency
This pick could be traded due to them having back to back picks, and rumors are floating they are willing to part ways with one, if not both picks
25) New York Knicks
I will continue to push this pick because the fit is too good for both sides
Again, this pick can be traded before or on draft night, but we stick and pick in this world
George is an unbelievable shooter that would fit right in with this Knicks group that will always be looking for guys who can open up the floor and be catch and shoot threats
His ability to be a connector in passing is impressive and underrated, which could be a threat with this Knicks chemistry
26) Washington Wizards (via LAC)
Washington took a center at 2 and now can continue to stack up on the frontcourt with a player in Smith who is very versatile
Smith is a guy who can stretch the floor and shoot at a high rate for his position, rebound really well and finish around the rim. Defense isn't very great but he is with a good coach if he wants to develop as one
Washington has also expressed interest in moving up as well into just outside the lottery to get a better player
27) Minnesota Timberwolves
I'm not as particularly high on Furphy in this draft, primarily because of his limited play and role at Kansas and his unknown status of staying or returning to Kansas
In the time he did shine with other players out, he looked great and has a ton of upside as a knockdown shooter with great rebounding ability for his position
Adding as many shooters around Edwards to help open up the floor is necessary and Furphy can provide thatÂ
28) Denver Nuggets
I am a huge fan of Dillon Jones and for Denver, they will typically go with the older college player to get instant experience on the roster
Jones brings everything offensively, a great mind for the game, as well as some serviceable defense
Denver wants to get a guy on a cheaper deal who can provide for this group, and Jones can fill that need
29) Utah Jazz (via OKC)
I know that I have Utah picking a guard at 10, but with Topic tearing his ACL, there is doubt that he will even play this season, clearing the way for Kolek to get instant minutes
With the depleted backcourt for Utah, Kolek can slide in and be a piece off the bench going forward
Utah could move off this pick obviously for another player higher up that could be more in their sights
30) Boston Celtics
Boston, coming off a NBA Championship, will be looking to reload on bench assets and could be doing so here with an experienced college player
Sheierman brings a ton offensively as a scorer and passer, who was one of the better passers for his position last year, and can rebound well, too
Allows them to have flexibility on who to play coming off the bench and due to his size, can play alongside whoever
